4X4 Driver Training Camps

Technical descent | Kagga Kamma

Our 'Offroad Driver Training Camps' are run at Klein Tafelberg 4x4 Trail near Redelinghuys up the West Coast from Cape Town. To brush up on your sand- and rock-driving skills, or simply to get away to the bush with family or friends, join us on this informative and practical weekend break. Training is conducted in an informal, non-competitive and participative manner during the course of the weekend - the emphasis is on getting away to a wilderness area in the company of like-minded people. Training notes are given to each participant, together with a certificate for drivers at the end of the course.

The 'training' part of the weekend is designed to familiarise participants with the basic principles of offroad driving, and provide an opportunity for practical use of their vehicle on a 4x4 trail that is not a 'vehicle-breaker'. Training points covered include: Know your 4x4 vehicle; Tyres; Offroad driving basics; Terrain-specific driving conditions; Vehicle recovery basics; Environmental considerations.

We usually arrive at Klein Tafelberg around lunchtime on the first day (normally a Saturday). After setting up camp, the theoretical training is started for participants, while family and friends may like to swim or spend a relaxing afternoon around camp. Come equipped with your own camping gear. The campsite is well-appointed with shady sites, good ablutions, shady lapa and a swimming pool. Dinner is provided by us on the night spent in the campsite. Supply your own breakfasts, lunches and drinks.

Training is conducted for a maximum of 6 vehicles only.

Check our tour schedule for available training camp dates.
