During April 2009 we visited the CKGR and were rewarded with many wonderful animal encounters including lion, cheetah, spotted hyena, jackal, giraffe, honey badger, oryx, wildebeest, springbok and steenbok. Despite having rainfalls as recently as 21 March 2009, the area was dry and starting to show signs of the fast-approaching winter season. The waterholes at both Piper Pan and Letiahau were operational, providing welcome relief for the numerous animals still to be found in and around these areas. For 2010 we've brought our tour dates forward to the end of February, and if we have good rains, the area is likely to be green and teeming with wildlife. Following the successful launch of our 19-night "Explorer" Tour to northern Zambia with Getaway Magazine in August 2008, we are now looking ahead to July / August of 2010 when we again head off to the region on an exclusive small-group tour. This relaxed self-drive tour starts in Kasane, Botswana. From here we head northwards to Lusaka, setting our sights on Kasanka National Park where we spend 3 nights - activities here include a guided bush walk and various game drives in the Park. Then on to Lake Waka Waka, visiting the Livingstone Memorial en route. Waka Waka is a spectacular freshwater lake that is hippo, croc and bilharzia free, and provides the 'brave few' with a brisk yet refreshing swim! The community campsite here is rustic but very neat, with helpful and friendly attendants who are also knowledgeable about the trees and birds in the area.

For many the highlight is our search for the rare and unusual Shoebill Stork on the edges of the Bangweulu swamps, whle for others the visit to Kapishya Hot Springs and Shiwa estate further north provides a memorable experience. Crossing the rugged North Luangwa Park and Luangwa River is a rare bush experience, as is our time spent in the seldom-visited Luambe National Park... With so many highlights and memorable adventures, this relaxed and varied African offroad experience is high on the 'to do' list of adventurous and self-sufficient self-drive travellers!

Our Wildlife & Himba Tour provides a wonderful combination of game-viewing in Etosha National Park, a rare opportunity to see the desert elephants and other desert-adapted mammals of the Kaokoveld, and the cultural highlight of learning more about the nomadic Himba people of the region. Include the many other highlights along the way, plus excellent accommodation each night, and this tour adds up to a fantastic African wilderness and safari experience! This tour is available year-round, for a minimum of 2 persons. Contact us soon with your preferred travel dates.
