After experiencing Windhoek's German colonial heritage and architecture, we head northwards to visit the CCF (Cheetah Conservation Fund) near Otjiwarongo, giving guests a unique opportunity of see and learn about the conservation challenges facing these graceful predators. We stay at the luxurious Frans Indongo Lodge in the area.

We now travel via Outjo to Etosha National Park, spending two nights in comfortable bungalow accommodation at Okaukuejo Restcamp, our base from which we take game drives into the Park. Translated as ‘Land of Dry Water’, Etosha Pan is the Park’s main feature – a salty white pan, and all that remains of a large inland lake. There is a concentration of waterholes around the southern edges of the pan, and it is here that the game-viewing is at its best, particularly during the dry season. Spend time at the floodlit waterhole after dinner – a well-known feature of this camp - and be enthralled by the variety of wildlife that usually comes to quench their thirst here.

Leaving Etosha we now take a series of off-the-beaten-track routes to the Twyfelfontein area, stopping at the Petrified Forest en route - an area of fossilised trees lying on a bed of sandstone, and thought to have been carried here by a raging river some 250 million years ago. Also visit the geological attractions of the Organ Pipes (a mass of angular dolerite columns) and Burnt Mountain (a hill where lava once flowed into shale deposits, causing a vivid display of colour in the early morning or late afternoon sunlight). Join a guided tour of the Twyfelfontein World Heritage Site with approximately 2,500 prehistoric rock engravings depicting elephant, giraffe, kudu, lion, rhinoceros, springbok, ostrich and zebra.

We now travel to Swakopmund, Namibia’s coastal resort town with a rich German colonial atmosphere, sandwiched between the cruel Skeleton Coast and the unforgiving desert. Join an exciting and educational half-day tour that explores the local dunes between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay - geckos, rolling spiders, scorpions, lizards, snakes, chameleons and skinks are just some of the creatures to be found in the desert landscape. Heading inland once again, we now make our way to the Sesriem area, our springboard to the hidden pans and towering sand dunes of the Namib Desert. From here we visit Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei, perhaps climb Dune 45, and explore the Sesriem Canyon.
We now climb away from the sea and desert, returning once again to Windhoek. This varied and fascinating tour reveals just some of the highlight of Namibia: spectacular land of contrasts!
