Navigators is a niche-market company offering a range of exciting and diverse safari tours to wilderness and wildlife destinations in Southern Africa. Designed for travellers who love the adventure of touring in Africa, our itineraries provide a panorama of interest and experience; from the cream and yellow tones of savannah grasslands and rich greenery of riverine woodland, to rugged and starkly-beautiful arid landscapes. From colourful rural villages and interesting cultures, to a fascinating diversity of flora and fauna.
A Navigators tour is about absorbing the sights, sounds and smells of Africa, observing and learning about wildlife in its natural habitat, experiencing some of the diverse cultures of the areas we travel to, relaxing around the campfire under star-studded night skies... join us on a journey of discovery, in a relaxed and non-competitive environment, where the advantages of small group travel really comes to the fore.
As many of our itineraries are to rugged and remote wilderness areas, the focus is on mobile camping as opposed to other accommodation options. Our guests favour these wildlife trips and camping safaris for the close contact with nature, and the strong sense of being at one with the wilderness environment. Subject to budget and availability, other accommodation options can be included in certain tailor-made itineraries, e.g. wilderness camps, chalets, lodges, guesthouses and B&B's.
On our booked-seat tours, guests are transported in our four-wheel-drive vehicles that are fully equipped for travel in Africa. Everything that we need is carried with us; from additional water and fuel, to all camping equipment and accessories. While not expected, we encourage you to participate in general expedition and camp duties - from assisting in the preparation of a meal to setting up your tent - as this is part of the wilderness experience and enhances your enjoyment of the tour.
Alternatively, bring your own or hired 4x4 vehicle and join us on a guided self-drive adventure; we will plan the itinerary, make all the bookings and guide you on the trip using our own vehicle. On these self drive safaris, four dinners are provided by Navigators, although fully-catered options are also available. Group sizes are usually capped at 6 guest vehicles per convoy to retain flexibility and mobility, and enhance the personalised wilderness experience for our guests. Bring your eco-friendly attitude, equipped 4x4 vehicle, camping equipment, accessories, food, drinks, enthusiasm and sense of adventure!
We also specialise in tailor-made itineraries to meet the specific schedule, budget and requirements you may have. Aligned to this, we have a close working relationship with professionals in various fields, and can therefore also develop special interest tours for you e.g. photographic safaris, birding safaris, corporate break-aways, etc. Put together your own group and charter us to plan your itinerary, do all the bookings, and provide professional guidance and assistance.
